Community Arts Awards nominations still soughtThe Arts Council of Greater Kalamazoo has extended the deadline for nominations for the Community Art Award 5:22 p.m. July. Community members asked for more time, in particular, to nominate candidates for the new Patron of the Award categories for an individual or couple who have contributed to the art, Epic Award for non-profit organization or a Kalamazoo County program that enhances the community through the arts and the Arts Leadership Award to a teacher or an arts administrator, said Beth McCann, Director of Communications for the Council.Other candidates are sought for the Community Medal of Arts for an artist, and rewards for volunteers, artists and young entrepreneurs.
Application forms can be found online at kalamazooarts.com. Applications must be emailed or hand-delivered by the deadline for the Arts Council of Greater Kalamazoo, Epic Center, 359 S. Kalamazoo Mall, Ste. 203, Kalamazoo MI 49007. Pricing will be announced in August and will be presented on September 8. For more information, call 269-342-5059.
Battle Creek band famous Disney tunes
The Post Band Concert Series continues June 30 at 19:00in Mill Race Park Battle Creek downtown. Post the band, a community band with members from across the region, played in Battle Creek for over 80 years. The group of junior post will open the evening, and selections Band Message for the evening will include the "Mickey Mouse March," songs from "The Lion King," "The Little Mermaid" and "Mary Poppins". Brian and Elizabeth Bucec will be conducted. The concert is free and open to the public.
